On the Today show on Monday, the star of the upcoming film Leave the World Behind referred to her husband Danny Moder as “our anchor” when asked about life as a parent.

“It all starts with Danny Moder,” Roberts, 56, explained to Hoda Kotb. The father of Hazel Patricia and Phinnaeus Walter, 19, and Henry Daniel, 16, is “our person and, in the most beautiful way, the captain of our ship,” according to the actress.

“For me, understanding how deeply felt life could be,” she went on to say, “really started with him.”

The Oscar winner Erin Brockovich and Moder married in 2002 after meeting and working together on the set of The Mexican. When questioned about parenting, Roberts and her Leave the World Behind co-star Mahershala Ali told Kotb that their two oldest children are away at college.

“I am grateful to both of my older children because they still allow me to be the same parent to them without rolling their eyes. “There is a lot of understanding,” she remarked.

“I parent them the same way outside the house as I do inside.” Specifically, “Are you getting enough sleep?” Are you sipping tea because you sound sick? ”Also, text me when you get home so I know you’re safe and sound.'”

The presenters of The View on Monday also mentioned Moder. According to Roberts’ sister, Lisa Roberts Gillan, there are “a few secrets” to sustaining a happy marriage.

“My sister, who has been married for 25 years or 26 years, I think, says the secret to a happy marriage is two bathroom sinks and two phone lines,” she remarked.

“I think marrying the right person is important,” she said. “I believe that plenty of kissing hello and goodbye is an essential aspect of daily life… Everyone should give it a go. Allow a week. ” A hug and a kiss every time you say good morning.”

Whoopi Goldberg, co-host of The View, jumped in, saying, “Maybe that’s been my issue! I just kissed her on the side of the mouth. ‘ See you later, bye. ‘Please return in a week.'”

“Hit and run; that’s what I like!” Goldberg, who has joked about her three marriages and penchant for single life, continued.

Roberts also thanked Goldberg for a forthcoming project on which Moder collaborated. “My husband, who’s a cinematographer, filmed this beautiful movie called Ezra,” she explained, pointing to Goldberg. “And you are so doggone great in that movie.”

Despite keeping her personal life out of the spotlight, Roberts has attended celebrity events with Moder and posted family birthday tributes on social media. In 2021, the Ticket to Paradise actor told one, “Pure happiness is the feeling one has when the people they love are happy.”

Based on Rumaan Alam’s best-selling book of the same name, Leave the World Behind is a film that Sam Esmail directed and starred Ethan Hawke, Myha’la Herrold, and Kevin Bacon. It is now in cinemas and will be available on Netflix on December 8.
