Kelly Clarkson acknowledges that parenting is a learning process for her, but she has a steadfast rule for her two children, 9-year-old daughter River Rose and 7-year-old son Remington Alexander, whom she shares with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, 47: No social media.
In this week’s cover story, Clarkson, 41, explains the decision, stating that social media can be challenging for children, especially those with parents in the public eye. She has informed her kids that they are not allowed to have it under her roof.

Despite the challenges of co-parenting, which began after Clarkson and Blackwell split in 2020 and finalized their divorce in 2022, she acknowledges that it’s a different experience for everyone and can be tough, especially initially. As time passes, she notes that it becomes easier, though co-parenting involves navigating emotions and trauma.

Clarkson firmly believes that her decision to restrict social media is the right one for now. She mentions that her daughter asked what if her dad allows it, to which Clarkson responded that she’s at her dad’s place four days a month, and if he decides to allow it, she can enjoy that time. Currently, her ex-husband is also not permitting them to use social media.

While Clarkson admits to being hard on herself as a mom, she believes she does a pretty good job. She describes herself as not a helicopter mom and values her children’s independence. Despite acknowledging that there is no perfect parent and that she may be making mistakes, she emphasizes that she is doing her best.
