Because of his condition, the actor has been through a lot, including a near-death encounter. Gary was in a motorcycle accident two decades ago that resulted in lifelong brain damage.
In December 1988, the comic fell from his Harley Davidson motorcycle and was transported to the hospital, where he underwent brain surgery.

He developed subdural hematoma as a result of the trauma, which is a condition in which blood pools between the surface of the brain and the skull. He spoke frankly about his experience in an April 2022 interview: I crashed my bike without a helmet, hit my head on a curb, split my skull, died after brain surgery, and went to the other side—the spiritual realm—where I received information.”

Gary said that he was brought back to life following a bizarre event. “Angels surrounded me.” There are balls of light all around me. And I felt trust, love, protection, and happiness like I had never felt before on Earth. “It’s the feeling that angels have,” he explained.
Although the hero of “The Buddy Holly Story” acknowledged the event as part of his journey, he stated that it was a tough time for his kid.
Gary is the proud father of three children, notably his son Jake Busey. The adoring dad admires his child and everything he has accomplished.
Jake followed in his father’s footsteps as an actor, appearing in the 2018 film “The Predator,” while his renowned father played in the 1990 film “The Predator 2.”

Gary and Judy Helkenberg gave birth to William Jacob “Jake” Busey in June 1971. Gary was married to the actress from 1968 until 1990.
Jake is a father as well. In 2012, he and his girlfriend, April Hutchinson, had their daughter, Autumn. In a June 2019 interview, The “Enemy of the State” actor’s father discussed the excellent traits he was glad to pass along to his son.

“Everything,” Gary answered, adding, “I am everything.” Even the difficult things of my life he’s learned from; it’s a part of him from growing up. It’s a divine unity between the two of us.”
Gary, who was previously married to actress Tiani Warden from 1996 until 2001, has two children: daughter Alectra and son Luke.
Gary has a son named Luke with his third wife, Steffanie, née Sampson, with whom he has been married since 2006. Sampson is a hypnotist and a stand-up comedian.
In 2017, she won the Friar’s Club So You Think You Can Roast competition. She and her darling spouse went to see a play at the Comedy Chateau in North Hollywood in May 2021.

Gary posed for photos backstage at the event wearing a gray and beige baseball cap and a charcoal sweatshirt.
In addition to the black leather jacket and matching slacks, the “Silver Bullet” actor wore a long tartan-patterned gray, white, and maroon scarf.

Meanwhile, his wife wore a short black button-down long-sleeve dress and accessorized with black jewelry.
The “Point Break” star appeared for solo photos as well as one group portrait with his child’s mother, model Christine Lee, and the owner of Chateau Comedy, comedian Felix McNulty.

In addition to his career in cinema and television, Gary signed up for season 21 of the famous dancing competition “Dancing With the Stars” in 2015.
The Academy Award candidate said at the time, “I didn’t have anything else to do,” when asked why he opted to enter the tournament.

Gary was the show’s eighth competitor to be announced. Anna Trebunskaya, a professional dancer, was his partner. The couple advanced to Week 4 of the tournament before being eliminated in 10th place.
Gary has previously appeared in two other reality television programs, “Celebrity Apprentice” and the UK’s “Celebrity Big Brother.”
