Gene Hackman and wife Betsy Arakawa were ‘dead for some time’ and discovered mummified’ in different rooms

After some time, a new search warrant revealed the deaths of Gene Hackman, his wife Betsy Arakawa, and their dog in separate rooms.

According to the search warrant, Hackman was discovered in a ‘mudroom, a room designated for ‘dirty or damp footwear and apparel,’ while his wife, Betsy, was located in the bathroom.

No official cause of death has been determined, but Hackman’s daughter told TMZ that she and her family suspected the deaths of Hackman and his wife were caused by a carbon monoxide leak.

Hackman, Arakawa, and their dog were discovered dead in their New Mexico home, according to the Santa Fe New Mexican.

The Daily Mail acquired the search warrant, which alleges that the pair were ‘partially mummified.'”.

The couple found Arakawa “lying on the bathroom floor of their house,” with an open bottle of pills on a nearby counter.

Similar symptoms of mummification and decomposition led to the discovery of the pair.

While the couple’s other two dogs were apparently found alive, their German shepherd was discovered dead ‘in a closet’ near the toilet, where Hackman’s wife was found.

According to Variety, investigators said there was no evidence of foul play, but no cause of death was provided.

According to the affidavit, their deaths are suspicious enough to justify a comprehensive search and investigation.’

It states that the reporting party discovered the front door unlocked and open, as well as a healthy dog roaming the property and another healthy dog beside the deceased female dog.

They noted that the heater was repositioned and ‘might have dropped in the event the female abruptly fell to the ground.’

Two maintenance workers discovered the duo and stated that they had not seen them in two weeks.

Hackman, a two-time Oscar winner, retired from performing in 2004 and wed Arakawa in 1991.

Following retirement, the couple grew reclusive, seldom seen outside their $3.3 million property.

In a 2009 interview with Empire magazine, Hackman explained his reasons for retiring.

He expressed, “My stress test in New York was the turning point in my life.”

“The doctor advised me that my heart wasn’t in the kind of shape that I should be putting it under any stress.”
