Gordon Ramsay counts himself fortunate to be upright following a serious bicycle accident.
The 57-year-old MasterChef star disclosed the details of the accident that occurred earlier this week when he was bicycling in Connecticut in an Instagram post on Saturday, June 15.
Ramsay said, “Honestly, I’m lucky to be here,” adding that the incident “really shook me” and that the hospital had admitted him for treatment.
“I feel pain. He said, “It’s been a brutal week,” and raised his chef’s jacket to show off his severely broken ribs. And I’m able to get through it. However, I can’t stress enough how important it is to wear a helmet.
Although he did not “break any bones or suffer any major injuries,” Ramsay did describe himself as “a bit bruised up, looking like a purple potato” in his caption.
Ramsay went on to state that he was “glad” that he had on a helmet during the collision since it “saved my life.”
“It doesn’t matter if the trip is short. He remarked, “I don’t care that these helmets are expensive—they’re necessary.” Even for children, a brief ride requires them to wear a helmet.”
Ramsay wished families a “great” and “safe” Father’s Day as he wrapped up his video and caption.

In his Instagram post, Ramsay included a picture of himself from before the accident on the second slide. He was posing next to a green bike, wearing a black and yellow riding jersey, green sunglasses, and a green helmet.
He posted a follow-up image showing the equipment after the mishap. The front of his bike helmet suffered severe damage, as did his cycling jersey, which showed visible tearing.

For a few years, the TV chef has been an Ironman competitor and a passionate cyclist. He claimed in 2018 to have taken up the pastimes to “get in serious shape,” according to The Daily Mail.
“I feel like I’m still the same person; the more I train, the more normal I am.” It’s merely an additional small reminder of my true identity,” Ramsay stated at the time.
