Gypsy Rose Blanchard released early from 10-year prison after kil*ing her mother

Gypsy Rose Blanchard, known for her role in her mother’s murder, has been released from prison after serving over seven years. Gypsy, sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2016 for her involvement in the stabbing death of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, was granted parole and released early.

Dee Dee Blanchard was found dead in June 2015, leading to murder charges against Gypsy and her then-boyfriend, Nick Godejohn. The case revealed that Dee Dee had fabricated her daughter’s medical issues, and Gypsy was a victim of Munchausen by proxy syndrome. This rare form of abuse involves a guardian exaggerating or inducing illness in a child for attention.

Gypsy served 85 percent of her sentence, including time in the Greene County Jail before her transfer to the Missouri Department of Corrections. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, she expressed readiness for freedom and reflected on her actions, emphasizing regret for her role in her mother’s death.

Gypsy revealed that she was manipulated by her mother, who fabricated various illnesses and prevented her from having a normal childhood. She acknowledged her sheltered upbringing, limited exposure to other children, and lack of awareness about warning signs of bad parenting.

Gypsy’s release has come with a new chapter in her life. She is now married to Ryan Anderson, a Louisiana teacher, whom she wed behind bars last year. Gypsy and Godejohn, her former boyfriend, have separated. She reflects on her regrets and aims to share her story to help others, particularly those in abusive relationships, urging them to seek alternative solutions rather than resorting to extreme measures like murder.

The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard, a docuseries premiering on Lifetime on January 5, will delve into Gypsy’s shocking journey and aims to shed light on her experiences.
