Harrison Ford and his wife, Calista Flockhart, have gone viral for their lovely moment before walking the red carpet at Cannes

If you ask anyone to identify a Harrison Ford picture, they will no doubt rattle off a list of box-office smashes in which the 80-year-old actor has appeared, including “Star Wars,” “Indiana Jones,” “Blade Runner,” and “The Fugitive.”

However, most people are unaware of the celebrities’ personal lives. Since breaking onto the scene over 50 years ago, the actor has mostly kept his personal life out of the public eye, preferring to keep the two separate.

For nearly two decades, the actor has been married to his wife, Calista Flockhart. Although they generally keep things low-key, they went viral this week after stylist Elizabeth Stewart published a snapshot of Ford praising his wife on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet.

January 20, 2002: The duo met for the first time more than two decades ago, at the zenith of their careers.

Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart first met at the 2002 Golden Globes, where the “1923” star received the extremely coveted Cecil B. DeMille Award for his remarkable contribution to the world of entertainment.

Meanwhile, Flockhart was nominated for her performance as the title character in the legal comedy-drama “Ally McBeal.”

Ford and Flockhart told People in 2003 that when they met, they weren’t searching for love.

“I remember loving him in ‘Mosquito Coast,’ but I didn’t really think about him,” Flockhart admitted.

Ford described their meeting as remarkable because he spilled wine over Flockhart’s clothing while they were conversing.

Later that year, on September 1, 2002, they made their red-carpet debut as a couple at the Venice Film Festival.

Seven months after meeting, Ford and Flockhart walked the Venice Film Festival red carpet holding hands, confirming their new romance.

At the time, Ford was 60 years old and officially still married to his second wife, Melissa Mathison, the “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” scriptwriter,  with whom he had a son, Malcolm, 35, and a daughter, Georgia, 32.

However, Mathison had filed for formal separation the previous year, and their divorce would not be completed for another two years.

Between 1964 and 1979, Ford was married to chef Mary Marquardt, with whom he had two sons, Benjamin, 56, and William, 54.

Flockhart stated in 2003 that the couple’s 22-year age difference did not “faze” her.

Much was made of the couple’s considerable age gap when their relationship began, but Flockhart told Hello! Magazine that this wasn’t a concern for them.

“It doesn’t faze me,” she stated at the time. “‘Wow, I keep forgetting that he’s 22 years older than me,’ I say sometimes. “It has no bearing on our connection.”

Ford began to regard Flockhart’s adoptive kid as his own after they had been together for a few years.

Flockhart had adopted Liam, her son, a year before they met. As she and Ford’s relationship progressed, the actor acted as a father figure for the child.

In an interview with Reader’s Digest in 2008, Ford commended Flockhart’s parenting abilities and decision to adopt.

“She’s a mother by choice — she adopted Liam as a single parent before we met, which is an incredible responsibility to take on,” he explained. “She has devoted herself to Liam and has done an outstanding job raising him. “I’m glad I’m now a part of the team.”

Ford described Liam as his own kid, adding, “My youngest, other than Liam, is 17.” It’s a beautiful opportunity to be a part of a child’s development, which is always a never-ending springtime. You can witness the flowering, developing, nurturing, and rewarding.”

On Valentine’s Day weekend in 2009, the “Indiana Jones” star proposed to Flockhart. The next year, they married.

Ford and Flockhart married on June 15, 2010, after eight years of dating, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, while Ford was filming “Cowboys and Aliens.”

Their private ceremony was held at the governor’s home and was presided over by Bill Richardson, the governor of New Mexico at the time. Liam, who was nine at the time, was present.

Flockhart was by Ford’s side while he was hospitalized following his plane tragedy in 2015.

Ford’s passion for aviation has been widely chronicled in the years since obtaining his pilot’s license in the 1990s, although his frequent flying has resulted in a few mishaps.

He was injured in 2015 when his vintage plane crashed on an L.A. golf course. The collision left the actor with a shattered pelvis, an injured ankle, and other injuries.

Flockhart subsequently told People that while it was a “really hard, scary time,” she backed her husband’s choice to return to the air.

“He loves it, so I love it, and I support him 100 percent,” she explained.

Ford stated earlier this year that the disaster caused Flockhart to quit flying in antique planes with him.

“My wife does not fly with me in vintage airplanes anymore; she will fly with me in others,” he told The Hollywood Reporter, adding that the crash “was really hard on my family.”

When their kid departed for college in 2020, the couple became empty-nesters.

Liam, Ford and Flockhart’s adoptive son, departed the family’s 800-acre ranch in Jackson, Wyoming, in the fall of 2020 to attend college.

Ford told People that he personally flew Liam and the three of them across the nation in his private jet.

Ford expressed optimism that he and Flockhart will be able to collaborate on a project in January 2023.

“We’d love to find one we could do together,” he said in January to Fox News when asked why the two hadn’t worked together previously.

“She’s just going back to work after having devoted herself to the raising of our son, Liam, for the last 20 years,” he explained, adding that she’s “enjoying going back to work.” “I’m hoping we’ll be able to find something to do together.”

“But, yeah, we haven’t found one yet,” he continued.

The pair locked hands on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival, where Ford’s final “Indiana Jones” film opened, on May 18, 2023.

On May 18, the pair stood for cameras at the premiere of “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” at the 76th Cannes Film Festival.

Ford got an honorary Palme d’Or prize at the festival for his portrayal of the eponymous explorer, who was initially presented to audiences in the 1981 film “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”
