The American Airlines aircraft, which crashed on Wednesday with 60 passengers and four staff members on board, allegedly broke in half.
According to NBC4, two first responder sources said the jet crashed in around seven feet of water and broke in two.
According to accounts, the Army Black Hawk chopper it crashed with is now upside down in the river. According to one report, rescuers are unable to access the chopper due to its perilous situation.
According to a statement from the Metropolitan Police Department, various agencies are presently coordinating a search and rescue effort in the Potomac River, and “there is no confirmed information on casualties at this time.”
According to NBC4 Washington, at least four individuals were rescued from the water and transported to hospitals. CNN, citing a law enforcement source, reports that no survivors have emerged from the sea yet.

According to CNN, the Army Black Hawk aircraft carried three soldiers on board. Heather Chairez, the communications head for the Joint Task Force-National Capital Region, told the publication that the jet was on a training mission when the incident occurred.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated that they are using “every available US Coast Guard resource for search and rescue efforts in this horrific incident at DCA.”
“We are actively watching the situation and stand ready to assist local responders. “I’m praying for the victims and the first responders,” she said.
