Hollywood actress Mariska Hargitay made a rare appearance with her kids after going through a difficult time with the adoption process

Hollywood actress Mariska Hargitay and her dapper husband, Peter Hermann, made a public appearance while attending the 2023 Stuttering Association for the Young Benefit Gala to offer their support. Even though the celebs’ visits were amazing, their rarely-seen children’s attendance was even more delightfully unexpected.

Three children followed after Hargitay and Hermann as they took the platform on the carpet. On this important occasion, their parents were accompanied by August, Andrew, and Amaya.

When the family posed for a photo, Hargitay looked wonderful in a pastel green wrap-around dress. She kept her lush brown hair free and cradled her daughter, Amaya, who was wearing an off-the-shoulder floral dress, with care. The young girl sat next to her older sibling, Andrew, who was dressed nicely in a suit that resembled his father’s.

August, the oldest son, was positioned between his parents, wearing a blue long-sleeved t-shirt and beaming broadly. His father had his arms over August’s shoulders in a kind gesture. Six months apart, five years after August was born in 2006, his siblings were adopted.

The “Welcome to 18” actress and her husband Hermann have been together for 18 years, and things are still going well. Hermann responded that generating happy and humorous moments is the key to their long-lasting marriage when asked what the secret was.

“I never imagined that I would laugh so much in my life. Not just the laughter itself but also the way Mariska embodies pleasure and happiness.

The Hargitay-Hermann family believes that making joyful memories is essential, so they actively seek out opportunities to do fun family activities together. Hargitay said that the family had really had a number of difficulties when going through the adoption process for both Amaya and Andrew, so things were not always that pink and peachy for the family.

After losing her mother at a young age, Hargitay’s father and stepmother raised her primarily. She received a few half-siblings throughout this transition, which let her realize that there are other ways outside the traditional nuclear one in which a family might come into being.

They were married in 2004 when Hermann proposed on one knee while wearing a magnificent band set made of aged platinum studded with nine round diamonds.

Hargitay, who discusses the sometimes “devastating” circumstances she and her husband went through while trying to adopt a child, cautions that the procedure is certainly not for the weak of heart. After giving birth to her firstborn son at the age of 42, Hargitay’s family plan—which had always included the possibility of having more than one child—was confirmed, and the couple decided they wanted to start a larger family.

Hargitay always knew she wanted to adopt when she was a little child growing up with a stepmother and half-siblings. The early maternal instinct she possessed was further reinforced during a family vacation to Thailand.

“I recall seeing children alone in the street in Thailand and India when I was 9 or 10 years old and wondering where their mothers were. They were incredibly resourceful, kind, and intelligent. I remember thinking, “I want to take them all home!” because I had that mother instinct even though I was so young.

Around 2010, following their 2004 nuptials and marriage to Hermann, the couple made the decision to begin the adoption procedure. To no avail, the pair underwent trial-and-error and a five-hour house visit.

There were a number of situations that ended in failure. Many different sorts of difficulties, and  then, following setbacks, the great hope [that] was ultimately destroyed. However, despite the irony, the most important event in terms of what it means to support the formation of a family was the worst letdown.

The couple began to feel the emotional toll of having their expectations of a successful adoption repeatedly dashed by various factors, such as the birthmother changing her mind at the last minute in one case, which Hargitay described as highly “painful,” to put it mildly. However, they were able to succeed in the end because of their tenacity, endurance, and reliance on one another.

Just a few weeks before arriving in the United States, the Hargitay-Hermann family welcomed precious baby Amaya Josephine Hermann. Hargitay and her husband were overjoyed to get the little girl, and they fell in love with her right away. Her younger brother, Andrew Nicolas, who was born two months early, joined the group four to six months later.

As the couple believed they had adopted everything they needed to, Andrew was a bonus child. However, when their attorney called them again to ask whether they were interested, they were unable to refuse. His devoted mother shared the following information regarding what his protective older brother August had to say about the whole situation:

“August believes he came up with the whole idea! I want a baby sister, he added, and Amaya showed up. The moment he declared, “I want a baby brother,” Andrew arrived. August is in a strong and positive frame of mind.

As the parents of their family, it is obvious that Hargitay and Hermann recognize the value of creating a family that is inclusive of all cultures. The way they raise their kids says a lot about them as people and as a marriage.

Hermann was born in New York but lived in Germany until he was ten years old. He returned to the United States and attended Yale University, where he learned the English language, honed it, and spent some time teaching English before switching to acting. After discovering his calling, Hermann landed a guest role on the second season of the highly regarded drama “Law & Order: SVU,” where he met Hargitay, who would later become a series regular and become his wife.

The pair first met on set and went on a first date before getting married in 2004. When Hermann asked Hargitay out on a date to church, she allegedly knew right away that he was the one for her.

“I just knew, and once more it’s like, you know, listen, the story of your spouse asking you on a first date to church, and you’re like, ‘Really Peter? Really?’ I literally broke down in tears because it was so wonderful. Peter mistakenly believed that I was so touched by the service that I was sobbing, but in reality, I was just overcome with emotion with the realization that he was the one.

Hermann puts his sentiments in a somewhat more philosophical manner when describing the moment he realized Hargitay was the one for him. To quote Hermann:

On Mariska’s 40th birthday, I really saw her with all of the people she loved by her side. It was as if Mariska had finally found the soil she had been longing to be planted in. I wanted to be a part of that soil because there was such an abundance of people and love there. And at that point, I had actually removed a lot of the dirt rather than simply separating it.

They were married in 2004 when Hermann proposed on one knee while wearing a magnificent band set made of aged platinum studded with nine round diamonds. Since then, the pair has been married happily, and Hermann attributes the longevity and quality of their union to the fact that they always find their way back to one another, through good and difficult times:

It’s how we track each other down again. This is a really absurd way that we may swing back and forth during the course of any one day while basically understanding that our final destination remains the same. We are moving in the right direction and are certain that we will arrive there together.

With their three gorgeous children, Hargitay and Hermann have created the ideal family. When they were establishing their ideal family, they faced challenges head-on, but they battled through them as a team and triumphed in the end.
