Miriam Margolyes played Professor Pomona Sprout in the hit franchise, making her debut in The Chamber of Secrets.
The 83-year-old subsequently reprised his part in Deathly Hallows—Part 2, much to the delight of Harry Potter fans. Margolyes has starred in some iconic films, including Babe and Flushed Away, as well as theatre.
Margolyes sparked a frenzy among fans earlier this year when she stated that she was ‘worried’ for followers of the renowned franchise. Always voicing her thoughts, she said, “I worry about Harry Potter fans because they should be over that by now.” “It was 25 years ago, and it’s for children—I think it’s for children.”

She’s also previously spoken up about her health issues, telling The Telegraph earlier this year: “When you know you don’t have long to live—and I’m probably going to die in the next five or six years, if not sooner—I’m hesitant to give up performing. It is really a thrill.” The actor went on to discuss the difficulties of being in your latter years of life while working in the profession. “I want to be able to play parts that aren’t just sitting in wheelchairs, but I’m not strong enough,” she told me. Margolyes described the limitations of spinal stenosis, which produces numbness and discomfort, as ‘limited and disheartening’. Last week, Harry Potter fans were heartbroken to learn of Dame Maggie Smith’s demise. The legendary performer, well-known for her iconic portrayal as Professor McGonagall, died at the age of 89.

Her sons, Toby Stephens and Chris Larkin, released the following statement: “It is with great sadness that we have to announce the death of Dame Maggie Smith.” She died quietly in the hospital early this morning, Friday, September 27th. She was an exceedingly private lady who died surrounded by friends and relatives. Her death has devastated her two sons and five adoring grandchildren.
Smith won two Oscars and had four nominations. She also won a staggering eight Bafta honors.
