In the future, this organic bag will transform person into tree after they depart this world

Traditional funeral practices, including caskets, burial plots, and grave markers, are both intricate and costly. However, these age-old customs are receiving a modern makeover, thanks to the innovative minds of Italian designers Anna Citelli and Raoul Bretzel and their groundbreaking project called “Capsula Mundi.” This innovative concept reimagines final resting places by utilizing organic capsules designed to cradle the deceased in a fetal position.

Crafted from 100% biodegradable materials, these capsules facilitate a unique transformation: as the body decomposes over time, it nourishes a sapling planted above, transforming the deceased into a thriving tree. The process is elegantly simple – the body is placed inside the capsule and buried in the earth, with a seed or sprouted sapling planted atop instead of traditional markers like crosses or headstones.

An intriguing aspect of Capsula Mundi is that individuals can select the tree species that will eventually become their final form, offering a green twist to funeral arrangements. As the body naturally breaks down, it provides essential nutrients for the tree’s growth, resulting in a seamless cycle of life.

Described as a groundbreaking initiative for promoting eco-friendly cemeteries, Capsula Mundi allows individuals to be buried like seeds, with a chosen tree planted above. This concept not only preserves existing trees but also advocates for the planting of new ones, creating serene forests that serve as sacred memorials.

While Capsula Mundi originated in Italy and awaits official sanction, it is gaining momentum in countries like the United States and England, where it is already proving successful.
