Revan, 27, and his wife, Haneen, 18, married on Tuesday, September 26, but their wedding was a nightmare.
According to accounts, the couple married in al-Haitham Hall in Iraq’s northern town of Qaraqosh, and the fire broke out at 10 p.m.
The fire was supposed to have begun with the pyrotechnics at their wedding, but Revan believes it originated in the venue’s ceiling.
They had over 900 people attend their big day, and over 100 of them died in the fire, including Haneen’s mother and brother.
Another 150 people were injured, including Haneen’s father, who is presently in serious condition.
In total, the 18-year-old lost 10 relatives, while Revan lost 15 relatives.
According to her fiance, Haneen is now unable to talk. He also characterized them as ‘dead within’.
“It’s true that we’re sitting here in front of you alive,” Revan told Sky News. But we’re dead on the inside. We’ve gone numb. We’re dead on the inside.”
Revan and Haneen will also be unable to reside in their hometown as a result of the accident.
“We can’t live here anymore,” the groom declared.
“I mean, every time we try to be happy, something tragic happens to us and shatters our happiness.” So it’s best if we go.”

In terms of how the fire started, Revan claims he heard crackling and glanced up to see flames.
The ceiling was apparently composed of nylon, and because it was combustible, the fire swiftly enveloped it, forcing large portions of it to fall upon people.
Revan’s father is alleged to have voiced reservations about the fireworks ahead of their wedding celebrations, but the venue assured them that they were electric and would not do any harm.
In light of the tragic incident, the Civil Defense Directorate, according to the state-run Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that the venue violated safety requirements since the hall was coated in extremely combustible metal composite panels.
“The fire led to the collapse of parts of the hall as a result of the use of highly flammable, low-cost building materials that collapse within minutes when the fire breaks out,” according to the directorate, according to BBC News.
Since then, Prime Minister al-Sudani has demanded that those at fault receive “the harshest punishments permitted by law for those responsible for negligence or failings that led to this tragic fire.”
The venue’s owners were arrested in the days following the tragic catastrophe.
