Talk about a comeback. America’s Got Talent debuted two decades ago as a talent competition accessible to anybody, including teenage vocalist Jessica Sanchez, who advanced to the semifinals of 2006’s Season 1 as a wildcard before being eliminated. She sang Celine Dion’s “I Surrender.”
Sanchez returned for Episode 7 of Auditions for the show’s historic Season 20, her voice louder and better than ever, to demonstrate her all-grown-up abilities.
It was an unexpectedly emotional homecoming. “Throughout the years, I kind of fell out of love with music because I was so young and swayed by what everyone wanted me to be, who they wanted me to be,” she said of her path since that disastrous first season. “It may have taken me 20 years, but I finally know who I am and what I want. “I’m excited to be back,” Sanchez said.
She has not only matured as an artist, but she is also beginning a new chapter in her personal life. “I have discovered my true calling.” I am married now… Another startling fact is that I recently discovered that I am pregnant!”

The gal can belt! Simon Cowell commented on the audience’s shout of applause when she ended her performance, saying, “I think they like you!” Howie Mandel said, “I have to say, wow, 20 years is a long time, but it was well worth the wait.” I adore that song, and you made it your own, and you blew the roof off the building. You are amazing.” Mel B. concurred, stating, “Jessica, I am flabbergasted. You have the voice of a bloody angel. Beautiful. I am at a loss for words.
Sofía Vergara was taken aback by the timeliness of the occasion and told the expecting mother, “I dunno, I think there is something very special happening on this stage with you.” “It’s amazing that we are on the 20th anniversary, the 20th season, and you’re here again after 20 years, you’re pregnant, you’re so beautiful, and you’re so ready to do all this. I mean, I don’t understand what happened in these 20 years, but I guess they were meant to be because this was a special moment, and I think that you deserve this…” before leaning forward to smash the golden buzzer.
