Kate Hudson almost emancipated herself from her parents, Goldie Hawn and Bill Hudson, to gain more experience before obtaining a part on Party of Five.
The 46-year-old said during the first Newport Beach TV Fest that she had a modest role in an undisclosed production before getting cast in the adolescent drama series.
“I had received an offer for a role that required me to essentially emancipate myself from my parents to work as an adult,” she stated on the Awards Chatter podcast panel.
“My mom was like, ‘No—never happening,'” she told me. “But then I got Party of Five, and it was so great.”
The successful Fox drama started in 1994, portraying the lives of the five Salinger siblings after their parents were killed in a car accident, leaving the eldest brother, Charlie (Matthew Fox), to serve as their guardian.
Kate appeared as Cory, a coworker of Michael Goorjian’s character Justin, in the second season.
In her debut part, the actress described Goorjian as “so sweet” and “so kind” on set.
“It was like two days of shooting, and I missed two days of school, and my mom actually allowed me to do it,” says Kate.

“I was 16 and obsessed with Party of Five, so walking onto that set was like, I couldn’t believe that I was going to have a guest role on it, a day player role,” the actress recalled. “I was like, ‘Oh.'” It was so enjoyable.”
After six seasons, the sitcom ended on May 3, 2000, and the Salinger children, including Neve Campbell and Lacey Chabert, parted ways.
Kate finally rejected the recommendation to “divorce” her parents since she and Hawn, 79, have an undeniably tight bond. However, the Almost Famous actress has had a rocky relationship with her father for most of her life.
After her divorce from Bill in 1982, Hawn began seeing her long-term companion, Kurt Russell, who helped raise Kate.
Despite Hawn and Russell’s Hollywood influence, Kate told audience members that she declined a role in one of her stepfather’s films because she did not want her career to be “defined” by her parents.
Hawn also discussed the dynamic on Kelly Ripa’s Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast last year. She recalled Kate’s early career, when the girl complained about reporters always inquiring about her parents.
“I told her, ‘The truth of the matter is we have to embrace each other,'” Hawn admitted to Ripa. “Yeah, you’re going to talk about me, and I’ll talk about you one day. And I’m going to be Katie’s mother, which might be really amazing.
The mother-daughter combo has been outspoken about their tight relationship for years, from their personal link to their connection via their occupations.
Kate previously told the Los Angeles Times, “I live seven blocks from my mom now, and she comes over every day.”
