Lewis Capaldi shocks plane passengers with a surprise “Wish You the Best” performance

On March 28, 2023, Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi surprised British Airways customers with an unexpected performance while flying from London Heathrow to Los Angeles. As the Boeing 777 sailed at 35,000 feet over the Atlantic, Capaldi appeared with a drinks trolley, offering refreshments and interacting with passengers. He then serenaded the cabin with an acoustic performance of his unreleased single “Wish You the Best,” a touching song from his upcoming album Broken By Desire to Be Heavenly Sent, due out on May 19.

Four superfans, including the Glasgow twins Rowan and Georgie Gupwell, were among the startled passengers, unaware of the planned performance. Their surprise was echoed by British Airways employee Nicola Barker, who described the event as a “pinch-me” moment, adding that Capaldi not only performed but also brought her a gin and tonic.

Capaldi ended his performance with customary humor, joking, “I’m sorry to disturb your flight; if anyone is not aware, my name is Ed Sheeran,” which elicited laughs and applause from the passengers. This unique in-flight concert showcased Capaldi’s musical skills and genuine charm, offering guests an unforgettable experience at cruising altitude.
