Maggie Dunn’s mother answers John Foster’s “Idol” tribute—a heartfelt message that tells it all about what actually happened to Maggie Dunn and Caroline Gill, the tragedy behind the song that had everyone in tears on American Idol…

John Foster, a Louisiana native and LSU student training to be an oncologist, has reached the top 14 on American Idol.

During his Top 20 performance, Foster used the chance to offer an original song he penned only days after his buddy died in 2022. The song’s title is “Tell That Angel I Love Her.”

According to L&M Star Productions, Foster stated,

“I wrote these words in memory of the two precious angels who tragically left us on New Year’s Eve. Maggie was one of my dearest pals, and Caroline was a close friend of mine whom I regret not knowing better. I look forward to our next meeting. Lots of love to everyone.”

Maggie Dunn’s Mother Responds to John Foster’s Idol Performance.

Following his performance, Foster indicated to the crowd where Maggie Dunn’s mother, Erin Martin, was standing. With a glint of tears in her eyes, she placed her palms to her heart to absorb the emotional moment.

Martin later spoke with WBRZ about her emotional reaction to the moving performance. She said, “My heart just melted.”

Martin explained that the two were buddies “in middle school.” She even posted a photo of Maggie Dunn attending Foster’s first “gig,” which included him wearing the same hat he wore during his idol homage to the teen girl.

She went on to say:

“For John Foster to make the song at all and then perform it, it’s an example— a tangible example of the light and love that Maggie left behind.”

Although Foster cannot restore Maggie Dunn to her mother, he was able to shed light on her narrative. Martin now hopes that this attention will save a future mother from going through what she did.

“For a moment, those millions of people were thinking of my child. My goal is that those individuals will notice her presence and learn more about her tale. Perhaps one of those persons can impact change in police pursuit policy.

What Happened to Maggie Dunn and Caroline Gill?

Erin Martin is enthusiastic about police reform after Maggie Dunn, 17, and Caroline Gill, 16, were slain by a police officer who jumped a red light while pursuing a fugitive.

Addis Police Officer David Cauthron crashed with the teen’s automobile after running a red light during a high-speed chase. The two children died, and Maggie Dunn’s brother, Liam, was hospitalized but eventually recovered. The crash happened on New Year’s Eve 2022.

According to WBRZ,

David Cauthron, 42, was sentenced to 32 years in jail, with 22 years suspended, for running a red light and colliding with a car, resulting in the deaths of Brusly High students. According to WBRZ, Cauthron was traveling at 86 mph and never braked before the incident.

The sentence means that the police officer will serve ten years in jail before being obliged to “speak to law enforcement and schools about his actions to hopefully prevent something similar from happening in the future.”

Our sympathies go out to everyone touched by this tragedy.
