Michelle Trachtenberg died as a result of diabetes-related complications.

The discovery comes as a surprise, since it was previously assumed that the actor’s death, at the age of 39, would remain unknown because Trachtenberg’s family had refused an autopsy for medical reasons.

Deadline reported that the medical examiner did not change the conclusion that natural causes, not foul play or crime, caused her death. Instead, he conducted an exterior examination and lab tests.

However, it was verified today to ABC News and People Magazine that Trachtenberg died as a result of complications from diabetes mellitus, with the cause of death being ruled natural.

The results of the toxicological tests confirmed this.

Trachtenberg’s passing came as a shock, prompting an outpouring of affection and mourning from admirers throughout the world.

The performer, best known for her appearances in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Gossip Girl, originally rose to prominence at the age of nine on the Nickelodeon sitcom The Adventures of Pete & Pete.

Representatives confirmed her death and provided a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

The statement read, “It is with tremendous regret that we confirm Michelle Trachtenberg’s passing. The family wants privacy in light of their grief. There is no other information at this time.

Among the condolences left for Trachtenberg, Gossip Girl co-star Blake Lively paid homage to her after her passing.

She was most recognized for her role as Georgina Sparks, which she played for four years.

Lively posted on Instagram, “She gave it her all in everything she did.”

Finally, the 37-year-old actor said of her former co-star, “The world lost a deeply sensitive and good person in Michelle.”

“May her work and her giant heart be remembered by those who were lucky enough to experience her fire.”
