‘Miraculous Find’: Missing 2-year-old girl was discovered in the woods

Authorities claimed a deer hunter in South Carolina discovered a missing 2-year-old child in the woods after hearing her cry.

Sara Alice Grice was last seen at 3:00 p.m. local time after resting down with her mother at her house outside of Prosperity, according to a Facebook post from the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office.

“A deer hunter heard her crying around 6:00 p.m.,” the agency added. “He called Newberry County 911, which began to track them through our mapping technology.”

This information was subsequently passed to a SLED helicopter and first responders before a “search team found the hunters and the little girl in a wooded area almost a mile from her home.”

Mekayla and Gary, the parents, told NBC station WIS-TV that Gary left the house through the backdoor as their daughter slept on Sunday. When he returned, they discovered his daughter had gone missing. The pair eventually dialed 911.

“It was a scary thought because what if someone sees movement and doesn’t realize it’s a child?” Mekayla explained to the site. “Instead, we got a great response that [helped find] our baby.”

Sheriff Lee Foster confirmed to people that the youngster “walked out of the house on her own” and that the case had “nothing sinister” about it.

“She was lost and found,” he went on.

Following the discovery of the 2-year-old, the sheriff’s office stated that a waiting department vehicle transported her to an awaiting Newberry County Emergency Medical Services ambulance.

“Aside from being tired, thirsty, and scared, the little girl was in good shape,” officials stated, adding that her discovery was “truly a miraculous find.”

According to WIS-TV, Mekayla was astounded by her daughter’s voyage away from home. “To have gone a mile in a completely different direction is just astounding,” she told the publication.
