Homeschooling provides the opportunity to teach subjects beyond the official curriculum, but what about the actions of this woman?
Forget learning math for hours a week; one mother is opting to prepare her children for life so they ‘never have to work a day in their lives if they don’t want to.’
Amanda Custer, a 38-year-old mother of three, has decided to prepare her children for success with a controversial lesson.
When Custer decided to start trading financial assets four years ago, she discovered that she could have it all if she tailored it around her family life.
Amanda currently teaches people how to trade through her firm, Forex For Women, while keeping her work-life balance at home.
She now only trades for 15 minutes each day and lets her children choose their own daily routine, which includes around 2 hours of homework.
She wants them to be able to use their financial talents without having to work hard in the future.
Her children, Adalyn, 12, Lucille, 10, and Anniston, 9, spend their days alternating between play and simulated trading schooling to help them develop the abilities they would need when they turn 18.
The California mother told Absolutely Business, “During the week in between dance, sports, art, and enrichment classes, they have complete control over when they complete their lessons.”
After finishing their education, the youngsters have ‘total freedom to pick activities,’ such as ‘beach days’ or ‘riding bikes.’
She stated, “My husband and I are both businesses, so we have complete control over our schedules.
“I am generally up by 6 a.m. My daughters get up at 8 a.m. and spend their mornings relaxing with breakfast or playing outside.
“Most of their day is filled with activities with other homeschooling friends, whether it’s a trip to the pool, beach, museum, or a meet-up at the park.”
As a Forex trader, she understood it was a passion that would allow her to ‘build a system that made trading passive’ so that she could be ‘completely present’ in her children’s lives.
She disclosed: “My children are not live traders in the markets because they are not 18, so for now I am teaching them how to read the charts and understand what is happening, how I enter into trade opportunities, and more.”
Using demo broker accounts, the females are currently in “successful positions” and have a thorough understanding of their business.
Amanda continued: “I educate them that our job is not to forecast what will happen next in the market. It is our responsibility to capitalize on the current circumstances.
People were quick to make a fuss online, with one user snarking that they ‘want my children to know the value of hard work’ and another criticizing her for letting the youngsters gamble.
Others, however, found her approach freeing, with one writing: “People are snarking on you, but honestly, you’re not doing anything bad; you’re literally teaching them to live, not exist.”
Jeez, let the woman live!
