Mom surprisingly awakens from five-year coma in time to attend her son’s football game…

Many people’s greatest and first cheerleader is their mother, and one Michigan mother demonstrated her devotion to her son by attending his senior football game.

Jennifer Flewellen of Niles, Michigan, was in an automobile accident on September 25, 2017, and slipped into a coma, with medical authorities predicting she would not wake up.

However, Flewellen awoke in August 2022, four years and eleven months later, and her doctors proclaimed her to be a living miracle.

During her coma, the mother of three missed her two older kids’ senior nights, but for her youngest, Julian, she managed to appear on the sidelines in her wheelchair in late October of this year.

This decision surprised many in the audience, who imagined they would never see the mother applauding at her boys’ games again.

Julian went on to score the first touchdown of the game and finished with three touchdowns and over 100 yards.

Flewellen has been living at home since July, nearly 11 months after waking up from a coma.

Friends of the mother also mentioned how surprised the neighborhood was to see her there.

“It’s nothing short of a miracle she’s here tonight for her youngest son’s senior night,” said Cassie Lee, a longstanding friend.

“Just having the opportunity to have her here to support him and letting everyone know that she is thriving and she’s continuing to get better, and we’re just still in shock that it’s even possible that she’s here,” Sara Macon, a friend of the patient, said.

Jennifer’s mother, Peggy Means, attended the game and talked to local reporters about her daughter’s rehabilitation path, stating that she has recently retired and is caring for her.

“Nobody expected her to wake up,” she said.

“We were told all along that she has anoxia and that the brain damage means she’ll never wake up, but you never say never.”

“She started them in football when they were in Rocket football, and she said, I don’t want my kids on the streets; I want them in sports,” she added.

And she really pushed them, and she screamed a lot. Jenn was known to be a very loud person by everyone who knew her. “I couldn’t even hear my coach, Mom; you were louder than the coach,” they (her children) used to complain.

Flewellen’s family has expressed optimism that she can be admitted to the Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital in Grand Rapids for the next stage of her treatment.
