A day at the beach is the perfect way to escape the oppressively hot temperatures, but one mother from Massachusetts learned that the seashore also has unique concerns.
She now wishes to warn others of this.
Even though the event occurred over a week ago, Heather Cassini stated that she is still “shaking.”
Declan, Cassini’s 10-year-old son, unexpectedly reported feeling ill on July 4 as the 40-year-old mother and she were at Hampton Beach, New Hampshire.
Cassini was not concerned at first. Declan had been playing in the water, which was scorching.
In a now-viral Facebook post, Cassini said, “I thought the breakfast was just too much for the waves, and he just needed to lay down.” As they began to return, Declan became “disoriented” and fell into a sunbather, allowing him to lie down.
He managed to get back on his feet, but he fell to the ground again.
Cassini said to Today.com, “I’m desperately trying to pick him up because I’m pregnant.” He is vomiting and passing out. He was pale.
When a group of women sitting close by observed the ruckus, they acted immediately to interfere. While monitoring his vital signs, paramedics worked to keep him warm and attentive.
“God bless everyone in our proximity. She commented, “There were so many nurses.”
“He was up and talking after what seemed like an eternity. Cassini says, “We took him to the car and waited for him to feel better.
The 52-degree ocean temperature caused Declan to suffer hypothermia.
Cassini said, “I had no idea that this could happen.” “I never thought about cold shock; you think about sunburns and dehydration and all the things that can happen in the water.”
Declan’s amazing recovery has prompted Cassini to warn others about the risk of hypothermia in the summer.
“Just a heads-up to parents with children who enjoy the water and don’t feel cold.” Just because they can do something doesn’t always mean they can handle it.
It never occurred to me that hypothermia might develop on a hot summer day! This is a vital lesson for everyone, not just parents.
