This is the emotional moment when one of the UK’s tiniest surviving newborns enjoys his first hug with his father. Macey Micklethwaite, from Worcester, weighed 551g and was slightly larger than her father’s hand when she was born. What makes his survival even more amazing is that his father, Rhys, was in a catastrophic motorcycle collision and narrowly escaped death.

So when Karen Dawkins’ mother discovered she was 18 weeks pregnant, the pair was ecstatic. Karen gave birth prematurely after a few months, and doctors advised the parents that their infant daughter was unlikely to live.
“She was the size of my hand when she was born.” I used to think how unbaby she looked in the images, but now I thought, “Wow, what a baby.” She’d been through a lot. “I’m fortunate to have him,” mom stated.

She wasn’t permitted to go home until she was five months old. She weighed 8.5 pounds at eight months, a little more than the typical load of a full-term infant. He’s simply a regular baby. She is little, yet she manages to keep up with the others. She is on the right track in terms of health and development.

Cots for Tots, a charity that raises funds for lifesaving equipment for preterm newborns and offers free lodging for parents and siblings of babies at St. Michael’s, has helped the family. She is now collecting funds for them because she is thankful for the help she has received.
