People criticize Jamie Lee Curtis for wearing a cleavage-baring outfit in Freaky Friday

Jamie Lee Curtis isn’t ready to say goodbye to being viral just yet.

Not long ago, the actress made news for her explicit (but humorous) reaction to Allison Janney’s pantless appearance at the Las Culturistas Culture Awards in July. This time, however, the Oscar winner, 66, is responding to the humorous online buzz over a dress she donned for a Freakier Friday showing at Los Angeles’ El Capitan.

Since Curtis’ surprise appearance on August 15, a slew of cheeky and NSFW memes and comments have emerged, reacting to the star’s outfit, which was so attention-grabbing due to its cleavage-baring blazer that one fan even apologized for being “distracted” in the comments section of Disney Studios’ Instagram post.

On August 20, Curtis decided to reply to the jokes personally. Along with a photo of herself in the outfit inspired by her character Tess Coleman (as her fashionable soon-to-be step-granddaughter Lily), she wrote on Instagram, “I LOVE the fact that the LAST photograph of me as TESS taken backstage in costume from my surprise appearance at @elcapitanthtre to support #freakierfriday has gotten more attention than any other since the announcement post with @lindsaylohan that sparked the movie getting made!”

“Happy to help spread the joy that our movie serves!” she said.

To complete the eye-catching image, Curtis wore a similar banging gray bob wig to the one she wears in the film, which follows the same body-swapping premise as the original. She did, however, leave the prosthetic lips behind (in the sequel, Tess uses “rip rumper”—sometimes known as lip plumper—which causes her lips to double in size).

Freakier Friday was released on August 8, more than two decades after Freaky Friday’s big-screen premiere in 2003. Lindsay Lohan returned to portray Anna, with newcomers Julia Butters and Sophia Hammons as frenemies and eventual stepsisters Harper and Lily.

Curtis told PEOPLE that her 22-year connection with Lohan has been one she can truly “trust.”

“If I tell her something, it will stick with her,” the Knives Out actress revealed. “We’ve both gone through difficult times because we’re living, and life is hard. We’re not dead yet. Therefore, our shared experiences contradict all that Hollywood nonsense. She continued, “We bonded and stayed connected. And that is unique and unusual for me.”
