James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan might be facing legal consequences after allegedly breaking a rule during a visit to Yellowstone National Park. Despite identifying himself as a painter and environmentalist on Instagram, the Hollywood star reportedly ventured off designated paths during his visit to the Wyoming park on November 1.
As a result, Brosnan received two citations for his actions. According to records filed in the US District Court for the District of Wyoming, he has been charged with “Foot travel in all thermal areas and [within] Yellowstone Canyon confined to trails” and “Violating closures and use limits.”

Yellowstone National Park encourages visitors to stay on designated paths at all times, especially in thermal areas known for their hydrothermal and geologic features. Venturing off these paths can pose serious risks, as hot springs have caused injuries and fatalities. The park’s website emphasizes the importance of boardwalks and trails in protecting both visitors and delicate thermal formations.
While both of Brosnan’s citations are listed as petty offenses, they carry potential punishments of up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $5,000. The actor has been ordered to appear in US District Court in Mammoth, Wyoming, on January 23, 2024.

Brosnan, who was in Wyoming in October to film “The Unholy Trinity” alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Brandon Lessard, and Ethan Peck, has not commented on the citations as of now. Legal consequences for violating park rules have been enforced in the past, with a Connecticut woman facing a seven-day jail sentence and a $2,000 fine in 2021 for leaving the walkway and approaching thermal features in Yellowstone.
