As flash floods tore through a Texas campsite, a quick-thinking couple did a modest gesture that saved countless lives.’
At least 104 people have died as a consequence of flash floods in central Texas, while rescue workers are still looking for an indeterminate number of survivors. The floodwaters carried away mobile homes, trucks, and vacation cottages that were being utilized by Americans celebrating Independence Day.
A month’s worth of torrential rain dropped in a couple of hours, raising the Guadalupe River to a perilous level of 26 feet.
Lyle and Sue Glenna of Minnesota spent the summer living and working at a campsite on the Guadalupe River. While they were able to save themselves, Lyle and Sue were also able to help other residents escape with a simple gesture.
According to CBS News, the couple’s son, Wes Glenna, stated, “They were able to get into their truck and honk a warning to a lot of people at the campground, which definitely helped some people make it out.”
The strategy was further addressed on a GoFundMe page, which stated, “They were able to save many lives at the campground by having the presence of mind to honk their horn and wake people up, giving precious minutes for some to evacuate.”

Floodwaters had overtaken Lyle and Sue’s campsite in less than 10 minutes.
“They lost friends, visitors, and coworkers, for sure. They witnessed it, and it was undeniably awful for them,” Wes remarked.
“They’ve lost everything. They have nothing but their vehicle and the clothing on their backs.
Lyle even had a heart attack during the chaos, but Wes has assured him that he will recover completely.
The GoFundMe campaign set up to support the couple after the disaster has already received more than $20,000, which has been put to good use.
An update on the campaign stated, “The donations have already been put to excellent use. Lyle was allowed to leave the hospital today. They refused to discharge him without a new CPAP machine.
“Thanks to your thoughtfulness, they were able to complete the task efficiently and stress-free. Once again, thank you.
“We still don’t know what insurance will cover, or when cash will be accessible. The gifts will enable them to begin to reconstruct their life quickly and fully.”
