Rachel McAdams shares her thoughts about participating in new ‘Mean Girls’ film

Rachel McAdams expressed her openness to the upcoming Mean Girls musical film, but ultimately, her participation did not materialize. In a recent interview with Variety, the 45-year-old actress, who played Regina George in the original 2004 film, revealed that she and Tina Fey explored several ideas for her involvement in the new iteration but found it challenging to make everything work.

McAdams shared that she was “really down for whatever” Fey wanted to do, but in the end, she believes the direction the project took will be fantastic, and she’s eager to see the final result.

Addressing her absence from the recent Mean Girls-inspired Walmart commercial, which reunited Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried, and Lacey Chabert, McAdams explained that she wasn’t excited about doing a commercial and had never done one before. She expressed her love for the idea of a Mean Girls reunion and hanging out with her fellow “Plastics” but noted that she found out about the commercial later.

The commercial, which aired on Nov. 1, features glimpses of beloved North Shore High School characters as adults and mixes iconic Mean Girls scenes with Walmart’s holiday deals. Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried, and Lacey Chabert reprised their roles, portraying Cady Heron, Karen Smith, and Gretchen Wieners, respectively.

While McAdams won’t be part of the commercial, fans can look forward to the Mean Girls musical film, set to hit theaters on Jan. 12. Tina Fey, who wrote the original movie, the musical book, and the new film, will reprise her role as Ms. Norbury, with Tim Meadows returning as Principal Duvall.
