Out of nowhere, a random audience member is picked to perform “A Whole New World” with the original Jasmine vocalist. And this guy? He performed flawlessly. You could tell immediately—it was most likely a father singing that tune to his young daughter every night.

He stood up, his worries dissipating as he smiled and passionately delivered each note. His enthusiasm and charm infused the entire show with enchantment. It was more than simply a duet; it seemed like the entire planet was his to share. Lea Salonga, the original Jasmine vocalist, has been asking random audience members to sing “A Whole New World” alongside her for years, never knowing what to expect. Sometimes it goes pretty well, and sometimes it doesn’t.

Jared Young was the man she chose that day, and it was a fulfillment of his dreams. This is what he wrote.

“I grew up wanting to play the part of Aladdin. Eventually, I auditioned for the job at Disney’s California Adventure and made final cuts two years in a row but was not cast either time, so I stopped auditioning. Years later, my dream reappeared.

Lea shocks the audience by inviting a passionate volunteer to play Aladdin and join her on stage to sing ‘A Whole New World.’. That night, SHE PICKED ME!!

I had a 20-year fantasy of playing Aladdin (and also of singing beside Lea Salonga) and couldn’t believe it was coming true! “It was an ideal night.”
