A plus-sized rapper is taking Lyft to court after one of its drivers refused to take her because she was ‘too fat’.
Dank Demoss, real name Dajua Blanding, was denied the service earlier this month and rushed to Instagram to share a video of the moment the cab driver told her she couldn’t fit in his vehicle.
“AM I WRONG?” What are your thoughts on the discrimination against me by @lyft’s driver? “I just feel like you treat big people like s**t, as if we don’t belong here,” she captioned the video.
You can hear the driver in the video explaining why he refused to take her to her destination.
“I got no space at all; my car is small,” he tells me.
Demoss, from Detroit, Michigan, responded, “I can fit in this car.”
“No, believe me, you can’t, so… I’m sorry,” the driver said.

She asks what would happen to her money, and he says he would cancel it to avoid charging her.
He then adds that it’s because he has ‘very fatigued tires,’ to which the rapper answers, “What have I got to do with your tires?”
Demoss had hoped that the driver would take her to a Detroit Lions watch party earlier this month.
Now, the 36-year-old has hired two attorneys, Jonathan Marko and Zach Runyan, to sue Lyft for discrimination.
Speaking to Fox 2 Detroit, she remarked, “I’ve been in smaller automobiles. I simply want them to know that it wounded me.”
Her lawyer, Marko, added, “I knew it was unlawful and wrong… It would be the same as a motorist coming up and stating, ‘I don’t want to have Black people in my car or Christians in my car.’ It is the same, according to the legislation.

Lyft has made the following statement: “We unequivocally condemn all forms of discrimination and believe in a community where everyone is treated with equal respect and mutual kindness.”
Our community standards and terms of service expressly ban harassment and discrimination.
Demoss’ video, which she shared on social media, received hundreds of comments.
One viewer commented on the video, saying, “He made a mistake when he stated to purchase an XL and when he indicated his tires were too weary.” I am disappointed in @lyft.”
Another simply stated, “SUE.”
Lyft responded in the comments: “We’re sorry to see this driver’s terrible behavior. Please direct message us as soon as possible if you want further assistance. We want to address this as quickly as possible.”
