A mishap on the set of Rebel Wilson’s new film, Bride Hard, nearly left her ‘permanently scarred.’
The Australian plays a spy in the comedy, which follows her to her childhood best friend’s wedding, which is crashed by mercenaries; unfortunately for them, the 45-year-old’s character is prepared for what is about to happen.
However, it was the Sydney-born actress who was taken off guard on this occasion, as she described how her last fight scene, which took place at 3 a.m., resulted in stitches, not from a comedy, but from a visit to the plastic surgeon.
While Wilson and her co-star Anna Camp were promoting the one-hour, 45-minute film, the Australian revealed the tragedy that occurred on director Simon West’s set.
“I suffered a significant injury while filming this film. I was in a fight scene when a gun was accidentally swung across my face—it was just a freak accident—and my nose split open,” Wilson told Access Hollywood.
“So I fled the set. It was strangely my last night of filming, and I was thinking, ‘How unlucky can I be?’ During the final night of filming, a battle sequence left my nose shattered, revealing a puddle of blood. Anyone who has had a face injury understands how much blood is involved.
“I was freaking out, so they took me in an ambulance and had to summon a plastic surgeon because else I would have been irreparably deformed. So we went to the plastic surgeon, and they performed all of the sutures, and you can’t tell anymore.
She responded, “Yes, it was indeed one of those unfortunate incidents.” As a result, individuals must exercise extreme caution when it comes to on-set safety, even if it is 3 a.m. and everyone is weary. Yes, you have to be very careful.”
Wilson may have believed it was all worthwhile if Bride Hard, which opens in cinemas on Friday (June 20), did well at the box office… but based on critiques from well-known film reviewers, this is improbable.
The Wrap’s William Bibbiani headlined his harsh review of the film ‘This Incompetent Action-Comedy Is Where Humor Goes to Die,’ characterizing it as ‘abrasively unpleasant to watch’—ouch!
Meanwhile, Angie Han of The Hollywood Reporter took a similar tack, with her review titled Rebel Wilson’s Laugh-Free Action Comedy Is an Invitation You’ll Want to Decline.
Although it may not appeal to all experts, I am confident that it will provide you with a satisfying viewing experience.
