Celebrity chef Anne Burrell’s sad final hours revealed before her untimely death at 55…

Police have confirmed that renowned chef Anne Burrell died at the age of 55, and facts about her final hours have been disclosed.

Anne Burrell, a New York native, was best known for her Food Network series, which included major blockbusters such as Worst Cooks in America and Secrets of the Restaurant Chef.

Burrell was found ‘unconscious and unresponsive’ by New York Police Department officers and confirmed dead on the spot.

According to a 911 call report supplied to PEOPLE by the New York City Fire Department, someone contacted emergency assistance at 7:50 a.m., fearing that she had experienced a cardiac arrest.

According to sources close to Burrell, she was in the thick of her latest initiative only hours before her death, adding to the shock of her loss.

The chef had recently begun improv comedy and had performed at The Second City theater in Brooklyn as part of the culmination of her improv lessons.

A source close to the chef told PEOPLE, “Everyone said she was so great last night and so happy.”

A different person who was with her during the improv event confirmed, “[She] was in high spirits last night throughout and after the improv show. Anne is having a great time, as she always is.

Burrell confirmed her participation in ‘Improv for Actors’ on March 19, and she seems to be looking forward to the task.

In an Instagram post, she stated, “Can I just say it is SO much fun, and I am learning so much!!! It helps me come out of my shell, as if I needed it!! #IlovewhatIdo #Luckygirl.”

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has yet to establish Burrell’s official cause of death.

Burrell’s family revealed her untimely death in a statement on Tuesday, and social media tributes have begun to pour in.

The location where Burrell performed was among several who paid homage to the chef, expressing sorrow and applauding Burrell for her upbeat personality.

The statement said, “We are extremely grieved by the passing of our friend and student, Anne Burrell.

“She will be missed and remembered as a bright member of the Second City New York Training Center community. Anne offered excitement, bravery, and a firm ‘yes and’ attitude.

“Her enthusiasm was contagious, and her presence was unforgettable.” Our thoughts are with Anne’s family and loved ones.
