Rennie, 3, is ‘Taking a Break’ from Drumming. Dad David Foster explains…

Rennie, the 3-year-old son of Katharine McPhee Foster and David Foster, gained notoriety earlier this year after a video of him drumming at one of his father’s Washington, D.C., gigs went viral.

Rennie was clearly a very talented prodigy, even if the child was unmic’ed and merely pounding along while Foster’s drummer, JR Robinson, was actually playing.

At the time, Foster told people, “It was pretty amazing.” “He’s studied our drummer, JR Robinson, who’s incredible, for a year and a half, and he’s figured it out on his own.”

In March, a month later, Foster shared another video of the young child at home, flawlessly accompanying his drum kit while his mother, McPhee Foster, performed “I Will Always Love You.”

However, Foster, who is presently traveling throughout Asia, claims that Rennie is regrettably taking a brief break from honing his craft.

According to Foster, 74, “he’s taking a little hiatus.” People can learn. “He hasn’t really been drumming for the past month or two.”

He claims there’s no explanation, just that he’s a child enjoying traveling the world with his parents while they sing.

Foster explains, “He’s just taking a hiatus.” “As a parent, you can’t push them. You want to play the drums, but what comes next? He has somewhat drifted away from it. However, he still enjoys coming to practices, seeing our drummer perform, and traveling with us.”

It’s safe to assume that the youngster carries the musical gene.

Longtime songwriter and producer Foster is the mastermind behind classics including St. Elmo’s Fire, You’re the Inspiration, and The Glory of Love. His accomplishments include 16 Grammy awards, 47 nominations, and 16 wins.

Along with these songs, he produced “Tell Him,” “All By Myself,” and “I Will Always Love You.” Many of the celebrities he has collaborated with throughout the years will participate in a large-scale celebration honoring his 75th birthday at the Hollywood Bowl.

McPhee Foster, 40, is a well-known singer who has published five albums and been a Broadway regular in the musical Waitress. She first gained recognition as the runner-up on season five of American Idol.

Rennie, Foster’s only son and sixth child, was born in 2021, after the couple’s 2019 wedding.

Foster declares, “I obviously love all of my children.” “But there’s a different focus now.”

He claims that he doesn’t mind being an older father, and that it’s not even awkward for him to play Legos with Rennie on his hands and knees.

“My knees hurt when I was 30, so there’s nothing different about it now!” He laughs.
