Ryan Gosling opened up about how he chooses movie roles with his family in mind

Ryan Gosling’s latest film may cast him as The Fall Guy, but he prioritizes his role as a family man above all else.

The Crazy Stupid Love actor has been enjoying a string of successes lately, from his performances in La La Land to his upcoming role in Barbie.

However, Gosling recently shared insights into his approach to selecting roles and the considerations he weighs.

During an interview with The Wall Street Journal magazine while on a press tour for The Fall Guy, the 43-year-old actor opened up about how his family, including his two young daughters with Eva Mendes, influences his career decisions.

Gosling emphasized that he carefully considers the impact of his work on his family life: “I try to gauge what is best for all of us by reading the room at home.”

He explained that his choices are made in collaboration with Mendes, prioritizing their family’s well-being above all else.

This approach often leads him to decline roles that delve into dark or psychologically troubling themes: “I avoid roles that would emotionally burden me.”

Despite taking on challenging roles earlier in his career, such as portraying a Jewish Neo-Nazi in The Believer and a drug-addicted teacher in Half Nelson, Gosling’s perspective shifted with La La Land.

He realized that his work could also bring joy to his family, as they were engaged in activities like practicing piano and singing while he prepared for the film.

Gosling’s daughters’ fascination with Barbie and disinterest in Ken inspired him further: “They were already creating their own Barbie movies on the iPad, so making one myself felt like we were on the same wavelength.”

In a gesture of support for Mendes, Gosling was seen wearing a t-shirt promoting her upcoming children’s book, ‘Desi, Mami, and the Never-Ending Worries,’ during a promotional interview with Emily Blunt.

Gosling’s dedication to his family is evident, both in his career choices and his support for Mendes’s endeavors.

His latest film, The Fall Guy, is currently playing in cinemas.
