Sandra Bullock opens up about wanting to work with Keanu Reeves again

The actors initially collaborated on the 1994 film Speed and haven’t worked together onscreen since The Lake House in 2006.

Speed was also a huge success, grossing an impressive $350.4 million.

Despite the passage of several years since they portrayed Officer Jack Traven and Annie Porter in the 1994 hit directed by Jan de Bont, Bullock and Reeves recently reunited for an interview on the 50 MPH podcast ahead of the movie’s 30th anniversary.

Bullock revealed that she almost missed out on the opportunity to work with Reeves because she reportedly ‘wasn’t the first choice,’ nor even ‘the second choice,’ possibly not even ‘the third choice.’ Despite this, she approached the audition with excitement, gratitude, and no expectations.

“I just adored and still adore Keanu,” she added.

Reeves acknowledged that there was certainly ‘an affection’ between them, both personally and as their characters, which allowed them to play off each other and build trust, ultimately making the experience enjoyable.

Bullock expressed her comfort working with Reeves and noted their rare level of trust.

Although Speed 2: Cruise Control did happen, Reeves declined to reprise his role, even when offered a reported $12 million, due to dissatisfaction with the script. Nevertheless, the divergent paths their careers have taken don’t necessarily mean they want to keep it that way in the future.

Bullock remarked, “Before I die, before I leave this planet, I do think that Keanu and I need to do something in front of the camera. Are we, you know, in wheelchairs or with walkers? Maybe. Are we on little scooters at Disneyland?”

Reeves added, “It does feel like there is a siren call to it, like there’s something that wasn’t done. I would love to work with you again before our eyes close.”

Whether their reunion on screen will be for a third Speed remains uncertain, but Reeves expressed his willingness, albeit with one condition.
