Soldiers are unaware that a guy has overheard them conversing on an aircraft until a flight attendant approaches their aisle

Can you envision a world in which everyone performed one random act of kindness every day?

Denny Kukich, a passenger, had the opportunity to see firsthand the impact of his random act of kindness in a wonderful story that has gone viral. Everything happened aboard an airplane flying east.

Love What Matters published the following story on their Facebook page: Denny gets on the plane as usual, completely oblivious to what is about to happen.

“I slid my carry-on into the luggage compartment and took my assigned seat.” The flight was going to be long. ‘Thank goodness I have an excellent book to read. ‘Perhaps I’ll take a quick nap,’ I reasoned.”

Before the plane took off, a group of troops walked down the aisle and sat in the empty seats around Denny.
He made the decision to strike up a discussion with one of them.

‘Where are you going?’ I inquired of the soldier sitting next to me. ‘Petawawa. We’ll be there for two weeks for specific training before heading to Afghanistan.’

An hour into the trip, an announcement was made that bag lunches could be purchased for $5 per person.
Denny instantly reasoned that dinner would “help pass the time” because there were still a few hours left. That’s when he overheard two troops discussing the bag lunches.

“I overheard a soldier ask his buddy if he planned to buy lunch as I reached for my wallet.” ‘No, it seems like a lot of money for a bag lunch,’ I say. Probably not worth five dollars. I’ll wait till we get back to base.’ His pal agreed.”

Denny took a look around and noted that none of the troops were buying lunch. As a result, he rose from his seat.
“I walked to the back of the plane and handed a fifty-dollar bill to the flight attendant.” ‘Take all those troops’ lunch.’ She snatched my arms and gripped them fiercely. She thanked me, her eyes welling up with tears. ‘My son was a soldier in Iraq; it’s almost as if you’re doing it for him,’ she says.

The flight attendant collected 10 lunch packs for the soldiers but had a question for Denny on her way to distribute them.
“She came to a halt in front of my seat and asked, ‘Which do you prefer, beef or chicken?” “Chicken,” I responded, puzzled as to why she had asked. She turned and walked to the front of the plane, returning a minute later with a first-class supper dish. ‘Thank you very much.'”

The gestures of goodwill persisted.
“After we finished eating, I returned to the back of the plane and went to the restroom.” A guy stopped me. ‘I witnessed what you did. I’d like to be a part of it. ‘Please take this.’ He gave me a twenty-five dollar bill.”

Denny observed the flight captain going down the aisle towards him not long after resuming his seat.
He grinned at Denny and extended his hand as he approached the row, saying, “I want to shake your hand.” The flight captain had something further to say once the passenger stood and grasped his hand. There was a unique reason why the captain appreciated the thoughtful gesture so much.

“‘I was a soldier and a military pilot,’ he remarked in a loud voice. Someone once bought me lunch. It was a lovely gesture I will never forget.’ “I was embarrassed when all of the passengers applauded.”

Another passenger wanted to express his gratitude and donate to the troops’ food as well.
The tale proceeds as follows:

“I later walked to the front of the plane to stretch my legs.” A man sitting approximately six seats in front of me stuck out his hand to shake mine. He also placed a twenty-five dollar bill in my hand.”

Denny prepared to step off the plane when it arrived. But before he left, another stranger wanted to do something kind for him.

“A man stood just inside the airplane door, put something in my shirt pocket, turned, and walked away without saying anything. “Twenty-five more bucks!”

Denny noticed the troops preparing for the rest of their voyage at the terminal.
“I approached them and handed them seventy-five dollars.” ‘It will take you some time to get to the bottom. It will soon be time for a sandwich. ‘May God bless you.'”

As stated by the author:

“Ten young men left that flight feeling the love and respect of their fellow travelers.”

Denny prayed for the soldiers’ “safe return” as he walked to his car. He, too, had ideas racing through his mind.
“These soldiers were sacrificing everything for our country.” I could only provide them with a few meals. It felt so insignificant.”

The narrative comes to a close with the following:

“A veteran is someone who, at some point in his life, wrote a blank check to ‘The United States of America’ for an amount ranging from ‘up to and including my life.’ That is an honor, and far too many people in our nation have lost sight of it.”

Since Love What Matters published the moving tale on Facebook, it has been shared over 256K times. The author’s credit for their post reads, “Written by Beverly Brass (as related by Denny Kukich).”

True, a simple act of kindness may have a large impact and produce a ripple effect. Hopefully, my tale will encourage others to do the same!
