He confessed on The Jimmy Kimmel Show that she paid because he had run out of money. That didn’t matter much to the lovers because theirs was a love that transcended monetary obligations.

After a period of dating, Denzel decided it was time to propose to Pauletta and make her an honest wife. Pauletta rejected both Denzel’s initial and second proposals. However, the third time was the charm, and she said yes, and the couple married on June 25, 1983.

When the “Safe House” actor and “Genius: Aretha” actresses made their promises to be together through thick and thin, wealth and poverty, health and disease, they meant every word of it, and sooner or later, they would be forced to prove those words.
