Two storm chasers have gone viral for the picturesque conclusion to their whirlwind relationship.
Bryce Shelton and Paige Berdomas are two long-time internet acquaintances who have a passion for weather and have spent the previous five years bonding over it.
“We became friends in the weather Twittersphere a couple of years ago,” Berdomas said in one interview. “We met online and became wonderful friends. After our previous relationships ended, we grew closer. We planned to meet for the first time last June to go storm chasing.”
After following the same storms in Iowa for a few weeks, the two kept ending up in the same spot at the same time but never had time to properly meet. When they finally met, they immediately clicked.

“We started creating YouTube videos together. Our chasing style is similar, and we enjoy interacting with other people on YouTube,” Berdomas says.
Shelton says he knew “from the day I met her” that he’d propose to his future wife during a hurricane chase. “I’ve been waiting for 18 weeks now, just for the perfect opportunity,” Shelton says, adding that he had to go about buying the ring and taking it around with them without Berdomas knowing.
“I wanted to do it in South Dakota in front of a photogenic tornado, because South Dakota is our favorite state, both of us,” according to him. “And it just worked out perfectly.”
On Saturday, June 28, the two were traveling together as the storms began to pick up.
I had no notion about the proposition at all. “It was simply routine business,” Berdomas said. “I’m not sure how he managed to hide it from me, especially since we usually share the same truck, stay in the same motels, and do everything together.” So we waited for the storm to start and chose the one we wanted to target. We were watching the wall cloud build when we noticed a funnel and were chatting to our stream about it.
Shelton suggested that we take a picture together.
How on earth could this day ever be topped. Experienced this in South Dakota with the love of my life and now FIANCE as he proposed in the most epic way imaginable. Cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with you @BryceShelton01 ❤️😭 pic.twitter.com/YwaaLF9tMm

“I didn’t think much of it. I was wearing gym shorts and a T-shirt, my hair was untidy, and I was wearing safety goggles. We were going to snap a picture in front of a tornado. We got out of the truck. It’s like pouring rain, and then the tornado gets incredibly enormous.”
Shelton then dropped down on one knee, completely surprising Berdomas. Despite being “more than nervous,” he executed the event flawlessly.
This was not the end of the couple’s adventurous night. After relishing that moment alone, the two continued their pursuit. They approached a tornado alongside Buddy and fellow chaser Brandon Copic..
“Later on, the most picturesque tornado ever descended. We were just filming it as usual.”We had Brandon, our other chase friend, parked in front of us,” Berdomas explains.. “We were in the tornado when it initially came down. We got quite close. Brandon is in front, and he pulls up and hurries over, saying, “Okay, we need to get a better picture.”

Brandon had heard from other members of the meteorology community that the two had gotten engaged, but they had missed the opportunity for a photo since they were alone. He encouraged them to replicate the scene in front of the tornado.
“It was the most beautiful tornado I’ve ever seen in my life,” Berdomas remembers.
The duo has been overjoyed with the well-wishes received from fellow chasers and members of the weather community online.
“When we finished pursuing, we stopped on the side of the road to upload a video, and four individuals saw our truck.” It was other YouTubers, and they jumped out and sprinted over to give us hugs,” the bride-to-be recalls. “It was the loveliest thing, especially considering it was primarily a group of males. Everyone was quite happy for us. “That was the cutest thing.”
