Teen with rare condition wins unusual Guinness World Record

A teenager from India with the rare ailment hypertrichosis, which causes excessive hair growth on the body, has broken an odd Guinness World Record: hairiest face.

“I am speechless,” Lalit Patidar, 18, told the group after receiving the prize in February for having 201.72 hairs per square centimeter of his face.

According to Guinness World Records, the teen’s face is covered 95% of the time due to this disease.

“I don’t know what to say because I’m very happy to get this recognition,” he remarked.

Guinness World Records authorities stated that only about 50 cases of congenital hypertrichosis have been reported since the Middle Ages.

Though the adolescent is pleased with his appearance, things haven’t always been simple.

He told Guinness World Records that when he initially started school, he was bullied and faced stares from outsiders as well as dread from his peers.

“They were scared of me, but when they started knowing me and talking to me they understood I was not so different from them,” according to him. “It was just on the outside that I looked different, but I’m not different inside.”

Patidar has almost 260,000 Instagram followers. He also participated on the Italian television show Lo Show dei Record to get his facial hair measured.

“Proud of me,” the teen captioned a selfie of himself clutching his certificate on Saturday, March 8.

Some people have advised that Patidar remove his facial hair, but he refuses to be swayed by others’ ideas.

“There is not much to say to people about that,” he told Guinness World Records. “I tell them that I like how I am and I don’t want to change my look.”

Many of his Instagram followers expressed their support.

“It’s the way you look,” one person commented on his Instagram image on Sunday, March 9. “No problem for us, and you should have love instead of bullying.”

Many people complimented Patidar when he displayed his record-breaking certificate.

“Congratulations, bro,” one follower said.

I added another: “[You] are my hero.”
