Terrifying simulation portrays what happened to boy after he was dared by his buddies to eat live slugs

We’ve created a simulation to show exactly what happened to a teenager’s body after he accepted the challenge to eat a live slug.

You’ve probably heard about this horrific story at some point in your life, but before we dive into the simulation, allow me to briefly explain what happened.

Back in April 2010, 19-year-old Sam Ballard of Sydney, Australia, was drinking with his buddies when the slimy monster began slithering in front of them, sparking the challenge.

Ballard’s buddy Jimmy Galvin recalled the fatal night, telling The Project: “We were sitting over here having a bit of a red wine appreciation night, trying to act like grownups, when a slug crawled across here.”

“The topic of discussion was ‘Should I eat it?'” [and] Sam left. Bang. That is how it occurred.

At the time, no one realized how lethal a single garden slug might be to the once-gifted rugby player.

He presumably felt that eating an innocuous creature like a slug would result in nothing more than an upset stomach—if that.

Instead, Ballard discovered that the crustacean had rat lungworm, which caused considerable paralysis and agony in his legs.

It subsequently caused him to get eosinophilic meningoencephalitis, a severe but curable form of meningitis that exacerbated his condition.

Ballard went into a 420-day coma, and the impact of one minor dare on his life was irreversible.

When he awoke, he was no longer a teenager, and he discovered the horrors that had taken over his body.

Researchers determined that the parasite had infected Ballard’s brain, resulting in severe paralysis and the inability to eat without assistance.

Now, YouTuber Zack D. Films has constructed an instructional simulation that shows his audience precisely what occurred to Ballard’s body when the parasite controlled him.

It detailed how Ballard got the parasite through the slug and how, even though the human body is normally capable of eliminating parasites, the parasite in Ballard’s instance had transferred its larva to his brain.

This is what caused him to lapse into a 420-day coma, resulting in significant brain damage.

The movie will hopefully highlight to kids the hazards of accepting risky dares such as eating slugs or other parasite-carrying animals.

Tragically, Ballard required round-the-clock care from his mother and lived his life in a wheelchair until his death in November 2018 at the age of 29.

His family has stated that his pals have no culpability for Ballard ingesting the slug.

At his burial in 2018, his brother Joshua told his pals, “We don’t want you to feel any guilt about what happened that night.”
