Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman of Saudi Arabia, abbreviated MBS, has become recognized for his ambitious initiatives in the country.

The Crown Prince’s most recent flagship project is the creation of the futuristic megacity NEOM, which will have a $1 trillion pair of towers creating a corridor in the desert.

The name of the city is a combination of the Greek words ‘Neo’ for new and ‘M’ for two things. These are mostaqbal,’ Arabic for ‘future,’ and the initial letter of the Crown Prince’s name, according to the project’s website.

NEOM is a project with ambitions that take it beyond the realms of science fiction. Early ideas of the smart metropolis included flying automobiles and robotic butlers that looked after people’s needs.

One component of the massive project has been dubbed ‘The Line and will consist of two parallel towers forming a single 75-mile-long boulevard. This will ostensibly include all of the facilities and services needed for life, including a train service to move from one end of the line to the other, eliminating the need for automobiles.

The Crown Prince has long supported the initiative, which is significant in scope and seeks to lessen the monarchy’s reliance on oil.

The Line, which is being built in the Tabuk area of northeastern Saudi Arabia, has finally begun construction.

Despite predictions that it might take 50 years to build, the Crown Prince wants the project done by 2030.

According to Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, NEOM will demonstrate a brand-new way of life for the future that is “100% renewable energy.”

The Crown Prince stated in July 2022 that the metropolis might house nine million people.

“We cannot ignore the livability and environmental crises confronting our world’s cities,” he said, adding that “NEOM is at the forefront of delivering new and imaginative solutions to address these issues.”

“NEOM is leading a team of the brightest minds in architecture, engineering, and construction to realize the concept of building upward.”

“The city’s vertically layered communities will put traditional flat, horizontal cities to the test.” The Line’s designs represent how metropolitan neighborhoods will look in the future in an environment devoid of highways, vehicles, and pollutants.”

The project has said that it will be breaking new ground, with advertisements implying that it will be on ‘virgin’ ground.

However, the Huwaitat Tribe has already lived in the territory since before the establishment of Saudi Arabia and is now facing deportation.

“It’s definitely not for the people who are already living there!” said Alia Hayel Aboutiyah al-Huwaiti, a London-based activist. It’s for visitors and wealthy individuals. But not for the original inhabitants.”
