Only a couple of weeks remained until the long-awaited New Year holidays. Then, the homeroom teacher of class 2A told parents that they needed to contribute money for gifts for their children. The amount was affordable for almost everyone—just $5. But for some parents, even this amount could be problematic, especially for single mothers.
In this class, there was exactly such a mother. A few days ago, Anna paid off a loan for a new refrigerator and had only a thousand rubles left in her wallet, with more than a week to go until her next paycheck.
“Denis, tell your homeroom teacher that I won’t be able to contribute money. Please don’t be upset; I promise I’ll make a gift myself later; I just can’t do it right now,” Anna tried to explain to her son, but during the conversation, she kept looking at her feet.
The next day, Denis conveyed his mother’s words to the teacher. She responded that all parents had contributed money, except for his mother. These words deeply upset the boy, making it difficult for him to even look at anyone.

The New Year celebration day at school arrived. Children, their parents, and the homeroom teacher gathered in the classroom.
She began handing out gifts. All the children happily approached the teacher and received their presents, except for Denis. All his classmates, except for him, received gifts. The children opened their packages and started eating the candies inside. Denis watched sadly.
One of his classmates noticed this and shouted to the whole class, ‘Den, why are you so sad? Where are your candies?’
‘But I didn’t get a gift. My mom couldn’t contribute money. We don’t have any right now,’ Denis sadly replied.
Of course, all the other classmates heard this. Then the children exchanged glances, and the first boy decided to take action. He approached Denis with his own gift, reached into the bag, took out some candies, and placed them on Denis’s desk.

A few seconds later, another boy did the same. Then all the classmates, one by one, approached Denis’s desk and placed sweets in front of him. Soon, Denis had a whole gift.
The children’s gesture impressed both parents and teachers. Some adults even cried.
Such actions by the children speak of proper upbringing and that there is still kindness in the world.”
