The Royal Marines Band went viral with a magnificent version of Neil Diamond’s famous song Sweet Caroline. Three marines, BdCpl Sam McIndoe, BdLCpl Kirsty Haines, and BdLCpl Hannah Smither, sing the song to the accompaniment of a full orchestra.
The band, based at HMS Excellent, Whale Island, Portsmouth, on the southeastern coast of England, is one of five bands that comprise the Royal Navy’s musical wing known as the Royal Marines Band Service.
They are well-known for putting on amazing renditions of popular songs, such as this one, and they have a sizable online following.
Their YouTube account has around 70,000 followers, and the majority of their videos receive a few thousand views, with some receiving tens of thousands of views.
But this performance was extraordinary, earning the band an astounding 1 million views in just a few months! Given the skill and effort that went into this incredible production, this achievement is justifiable.
According to their YouTube page, the bands that comprise The Royal Marines Band Service are among the world’s most varied military musical ensembles.
They’re renowned for “providing the Royal Navy, Defense, and the State with musical and ceremonial excellence that underpins the fabric of the nation, service ethos, and national core values.”
