The daughter of actor John Amos stated that she just learned of her father’s ‘heartbreaking’ death via media reports.
Shannon Amos stated that she was ‘beyond words’ after learning of Amos’ death through a social media post.
On August 24, the star of Coming to America and Good Times died at his Los Angeles home.
Amos’ son, KC Amos, made a statement saying, “It is with heartfelt sadness that I share with you that my father has transitioned.”

“He possessed a compassionate nature, garnering global affection. Many fans consider him to be their television father. “He had a good life, and his legacy will live on through his tremendous performances as an actor in television and movies.”
Shannon has now released her own statement online. On her social media platforms, she stated, “I am beyond words… Our family has got the devastating news that my father, John Allen Amos, Jr., died on August 21st.” We are devastated and filled with many questions about how this happened 45 days ago. We, like many of you, learned about it through the media.

She said, “This should be a moment to remember and celebrate his life, but we are battling to manage the tsunami of emotions and uncertainty surrounding his death. The fact that my father is finally free brings me a sense of serenity. My family and I sincerely appreciate the outpouring of kindness, calls, and messages.” Please continue to keep our family in your thoughts and prayers. “Thank you.”

Amos had been working on a documentary series called America’s Dad with K.C. for several years before his death.
In 2024, he told people that working with his son as a filmmaker is a privilege because it allows them to record inspiring events. It covers my career, his career, and our combined careers. And it’s something I believe every parent and son will want to watch.
It appears that Amos passed away due to natural causes, although the precise reason for his death remains unknown.
