“The house has no choice”: Speaker Johnson provides an update on the Impeachment Inquiry Formalization

The impeachment investigation into President Joe Biden, begun by former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy and continued by current Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, will be formalized next week, according to Speaker Johnson, as long as the small GOP majority in the House can be rallied to support the measure.

The vote will be a test of Republican unity, especially following Rep. Santos’ ouster, because the Republicans’ majority is only a few seats, and more than a few Republicans who oppose the bill will prevent it. However, because the impeachment investigation was not properly approved by vote when previous Speaker McCarthy launched it on September 12, Speaker Johnson is saying that a vote to formally adopt it is required to assist it in obtaining material barred by the White House.

Speaker Johnson stated, “The House has no choice if it’s going to follow its constitutional responsibility to formally adopt an impeachment inquiry on the floor so that when the subpoenas are challenged in court, we will be at the apex of our constitutional authority.”

Speaker Johnson also sought to influence the GOP caucus’s moderates by saying that this vote should be considered a legal decision, not a political referendum on the impeachment probe, as it delves deeper into the Biden family. He went on to say, “All the moderates in our conference understand this is not a political decision.”

Continuing, he outlined the fundamentals of the situation and why politics should not influence the representatives’ decisions, noting, “This is a legal choice. This is a matter of constitutional law. And whether someone is for or against impeachment is irrelevant at this point.” He went on to say, “We have to continue our legal responsibility, and that is solely what this vote is about.”

The research head of the Government Accountability Institute has stated that impeaching Biden is an “open and shut” case since the evidence is so overwhelming. “If they can get Hunter Biden behind closed doors and drill down on two questions: Number one, have you ever discussed your foreign business dealings with your father?” he added. We already know the answer is yes.”

“Hunter hasn’t been honest about this,” he said, “but the second question is, did your father ever speak to your business partners while doing foreign policy that affected their business?” And the answer to both inquiries is yes, and the money demonstrates that valuable items were moved. Now, Joe Biden has stated in his own words that he delayed the billion or dollars, which is an official move unless they fired the prosecutor, and the email revealed that the Burisma executives urged Joe Biden to do so. As far as I’m concerned, this is a closed case.”
