The Kentucky Derby announces prominent country artist to perform national anthem for 150th running

As fans gear up for the exhilarating two-minute spectacle of the Kentucky Derby, country icon Wynonna Judd is preparing for her own brief moment in the spotlight. She’s set to perform the national anthem at the event’s 150th edition, a fact she excitedly shared with her Instagram followers last Friday. For Judd, a native of Kentucky, this opportunity holds special significance.

“I am immensely proud to represent my home state in this iconic tradition,” she expressed. “The Kentucky Derby holds a special place in my heart, and to be able to contribute to such a historic event is truly meaningful.”

Reflecting on her journey from attending the races as a young girl to now performing during this milestone year, Judd described the experience as coming full circle.

“Wynonna Judd is not only a multigenerational talent who has left an indelible mark on country music, but also a proud Kentucky native,” remarked Mike Anderson, President of Churchill Downs Racetrack. “Her powerful voice is the perfect choice to set the stage for this extraordinary Kentucky Derby.”

Indeed, Judd joins a prestigious list of country stars who’ve had the honor of singing the national anthem before the Derby, including Carly Pearce, Brittney Spencer, Jennifer Nettles, Leann Rimes, Lady A, and Rascal Flatts. This year, Martha Stewart will take on the role of “Riders Up” announcer, while Lana Scott will perform the anthem ahead of the Kentucky Oaks.

Don’t miss Wynonna Judd’s rendition of the national anthem at the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby on May 4th.
