It broke the monotony of James’ day to find Liam crying in the attic. Unbeknownst to him, as he hurried to soothe his traumatized child, their home was about to reveal a long-kept secret. 

The story began in 2018 when deer damaged the family’s arborvitae trees. They noticed something odd between the east yard trees as they prepared to replace them. Though initially thought to be an electrical box, it was much more complex. 

When landscapers arrived in May 2018 to remove the damaged trees, they discovered that the metal box was the entrance to a massive hornet’s nest. The size of the nest and its peculiar noises, akin to a straining car engine, surprised James and Liam, leading them to conclude that something vital lay hidden within. 

James contacted a hornet control professional, but the specialist turned him down after seeing the unique nest in the attic. James reached out to several pest control companies, but they advised him to hold off until winter. James decided to act alone owing to the loud noise and worsening circumstances. 

James put on safety gear and attempted to remove the nest by himself. The hornets stung him several times, causing him extreme discomfort. To keep his family safe, Liam bravely used a smoker to temporarily pacify the hornets, unwittingly revealing a disturbing discovery within the nest. 

James and his wife Emma disagreed with the frightening revelation, despite their admiration for Liam’s bravery and concern for his safety.
