Biko’s Manna, a family band formed by Johannesburg-born brothers Biko, Manna, and Mfundo, recently auditioned for America’s Got Talent’s 19th season after receiving an invitation to appear on the program following some high-profile social media performances. They delighted both the audience and the judges with a simple, lovely interpretation of Bobby McFerrin’s 1988 reggae hit, ‘Don’t Worry, Be Happy,’ bringing charming harmonies, a breezy approach, and superb vocals to the renowned music.
In fact, it was clear from the start that the trio’s performance would be of the highest quality, with lead singer and oldest sibling Biko prompting cheers with her effortless improvised vocal introduction, while middle sibling Manna’s lovely guitar playing and gorgeous harmonies added both style and substance to the ebullient cover. The brothers’ music selection also appeared to go over well, with Simon Cowell exclaiming, “Oh, I love this song!” as soon as he recognized it.

We can’t forget about youngest sister Mfundo, whose adorable spoken word interjections of “don’t worry, be happy” no doubt endeared the group to the audience even more, with one audience member remarking to her companion, “They better get four yeses,” after the trio concluded. A standing ovation from the entire audience followed, as did those four unavoidable yeses: “I think there’s a good chance that you’re going to walk out of here with a million dollars,” proclaimed Howie Mandel, “I’m so excited you’re here.”

If you think Biko’s Manna appears familiar, you could recall them from one of their incredibly successful social media movies, which we discussed previously. Perhaps the most well-known of these is their 2023 cover of the Bee Gees’ ‘How Deep Is Your Love.’. With Biko’s astounding vocal acrobatics, Manna’s fantastic harmonies and relaxing guitar, and Mfundo’s adorable dancing, the three grabbed audiences from all over the world with their raw, unrestrained talent.
