Becoming a mother is a genuinely unique and particular obligation that dates back as far as our species.

Obviously, there is no right or wrong approach. All infants should be honored, and all moms should be recognized for the incredible journey they and their bodies go through while creating another human being.

Some women, such as Maria Carmen del Bousada of Cadiz, Spain, encounter ridicule, if not tyranny, for their decisions about when and how to have a kid.

In 2006, Maria asserted that her family was shocked when she revealed her twin pregnancy to them.

Why? Because she was 66 years old.

According to reports, Maria, a retired store clerk, sold her home to fund IVF therapy, which would allow her to conceive despite her advanced age. She allegedly lied to physicians at a California reproductive clinic, claiming to be 55 years old.

Maria believed that everyone should be allowed to decide when they want to establish a family, rather than being forced by society or others’ expectations.

Diagnosed with cancer

According to The Guardian newspaper, she stated at the time, “Often circumstances put you between a rock and a hard place, and maybe things shouldn’t have been done in the way they were done, but that was the only way to achieve the thing I had always dreamed of.”

Unsurprisingly, not everyone agreed with her.

Her critics included members of her own family, who dubbed her selfish. Maria even said that she had disguised her pregnancy for a while and that her relatives assumed she was kidding when she finally told them.

Maria gave birth to healthy twin boys, Christian and Pau, in 2006, making her the world’s oldest mother.

Unfortunately, she would not get to watch them grow up. Only six months after giving birth, the new mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

“They’re still babies, so I haven’t told them,” she explained. “They’re too young for these things.”

Maria’s family was obliged to step in and help her raise Christian and Pau. The retired mother died in 2009, having barely spent a few years with her sons.

Maria’s brother Ricardo said, “I think she has done this too late in life… but now they are here.” “We adore these gorgeous boys.”

Pilar Pinto, a resident of Cadiz, where Maria lived, also supplied an update on Christian and Pau’s lives.

“They are being well taken care of and are in great shape,” he told me. “I see them here often in town.”

Pinto continued, “God did not allow her to appreciate her children very much. He should have allowed her more time.”

Maria, for her part, was certain about her desire to have children later in life until the very end.

What a great tale. I’m not sure about you, but I believe all women should have the freedom to choose when they want to have children.
