Fender benders seldom result in beneficial outcomes. But for Destiny Smith and 97-year-old Jim, a little vehicle accident marked the start of a great friendship.
In a Seen.TV compilation video of TikTok recordings from Smith’s account (@Iamdonshay), she says that Jim rear-ended her car as she was leaving church in September 2024. After speaking with him, Smith realized that Jim was in pain.
The collision was minor, and she found out that he did not have insurance or a driver’s license. She also discovered that he was 97 years old. “But honestly, I was frightened because he was swerving all over the road. After he hit me, I got out of my car and asked if he was okay,” she explained. Jim assured her he was, and he was just trying to go home.

After conversing more, the two found they lived only two minutes apart. Smith promised Jim that she would “come check up on” him. As the film proceeds, Smith inquires further about Jim’s living circumstances. She discovers that he lives alone and has no children or relatives nearby.
“Who helps you?” Smith questions him, and he says, “Nobody.” Smith wasn’t pleased with the answer. “I’m so sorry,” she tells him. Smith asked her social media followers for recommendations on how to help Jim, and she appreciates their insights.
“He will now have aides. I spoke to a social worker. “It’ll all work out,” she adds in the video. “It’s all going to work out for Jim, and I’m so excited because he’s not going to be alone anymore.” Smith specifically stated in another video that she was able to obtain Jim assistance from the county and that nurses will visit his home to care for him.
Since then, Smith has been a consistent presence in Jim’s life. She pays him frequent visits, checks on him, brings him out to eat, and they even celebrate his birthday together.

Smith elaborated on Jim’s experience in a longer video for her fans. “He’s 97. He outlived several of his family members. “His brother and wife recently died, and they never had children,” she explains. “He’s really sweet.”
Smith’s supporters have complimented her for her concern for Jim. One viewer said, “Both of you were certainly intended to meet paths. Smith said, “Thank you so much! 🥰 Thanks to God we did!” I was determined to assist him. ♥️”
