This kid was born with ‘big smile’ on her face. But when they finally learned what had happened, her mom revealed a tragic reality

When Ayla Summer Mucha made her entrance into the world in December 2021, her parents were greeted with a wide smile on her tiny face. Despite initial confusion due to a rare condition that caused her perpetual smile, Ayla has become a social media sensation, with people worldwide adoring her charming grin.

Cristina Vercher and her husband Blaize Mucha eagerly anticipated the birth of their baby girl on December 30, 2021. However, during the C-section, they received surprising news from the doctors.

Ayla Summer Mucha was born with bilateral macrostomia, a condition where her mouth didn’t form properly.

This facial cleft, an exceptionally rare deformity, results in the corners of the mouth not coming together properly during fetal development. Only 14 similar cases have been documented in medical literature.

The parents were unaware of this condition before Ayla’s birth, as ultrasounds showed no problems. The sight of Ayla’s mouth open wider than normal raised concerns for her parents, Cristina, 23, and Blaize, 22, who were surprised by the evident issue despite Ayla’s small size.

“Blaize and I didn’t know about this condition, and I had never met anyone born with macrostomia,” said Ayla’s mother, Cristina Vercher. “So, it was a big surprise.”

The doctors, too, were caught off guard by the condition of bilateral macrostomia, causing additional worry for the parents.

“It was even more worrying because it took hours for a doctor to give us an answer. And the hospital didn’t know much about this rare condition,” Vercher said. “As a mother, all I could think about was where I went wrong.”

The parents were reassured by doctors that there was nothing they could have done differently, dispelling Cristina’s worries about a potential mistake during her pregnancy causing her daughter’s condition.

The Mucha family concentrated on providing Ayla with comfort despite the challenges the condition posed for her eating and drinking. They decided to share Ayla’s story on social media, leading to surprising support.

Ayla’s adorable smile garnered around 6.5 million likes on TikTok, with many expressing admiration and support. However, there were also negative comments, prompting Ayla’s fans to rally in her defense.

In response to the mean comments, Vercher emphasized the importance of kindness and acceptance. She hoped that people would show the same respect if they found themselves in a similar situation, highlighting that conditions like this could happen to anyone. Vercher acknowledged the challenges of social media but remained focused on the positive comments and support, expressing pride in sharing their experiences and cherished memories despite the negativity.
