Many of us have gone in line early for something we really want, expecting to beat the crowds and be among the first to get it: concert tickets, for example, or a newly launched phone.

But wouldn’t it be lovely if everyone was so willing to adopt pets? Imagine a future where people queue up outside shelters before they even open in order to adopt the dog of their dreams.

That’s exactly what occurred at one shelter recently, when a man arrived early to ensure that a lovely shelter puppy would be his.

According to The Dodo, Elliot, a border collie puppy, wound up in the Palm Springs Animal Shelter in March after being spotted as a stray.

The terrified, shy dog was placed in a foster home until he could be adopted, and while there, he left an impact on the foster’s neighbor, Dr. Brian Eberhart.

“He had the opportunity to get to know Elliot before he was available and fell in love,” shelter executive director Anthony Mercurio told Newsweek.

When Elliot was placed up for adoption, Dr. Eberhart knew he had to be the one to give the puppy home, and he went out of his way to make sure no one else claimed the dog before him.

The shelter didn’t open until 1 p.m. on the day Elliot was offered for adoption, but he waited outside for five hours before that, assuring he’d be the first.

“He remained there from approximately 8 a.m. until we opened at 1 p.m. “When we saw his lounge set up outside, we had to talk to him and found out he was there to ensure he had a chance to adopt Elliot,” Mercurio told Newsweek.

Dr. Eberhart camped outside, reading on a folding chair. “Just before noon, his wife relieved him for a bathroom break.” “It was a collaborative effort,” Mercurio remarked.

He was undoubtedly more committed than most individuals when it came to adopting a dog. “Other people came by that morning as well, but once they found out that we didn’t open until 1 p.m. that day, they gave up and left,” Mercurio was quoted as saying by The Dodo.

Fortunately, his patience paid off, as Eberhart was the first to adopt Elliot. Elliot’s reply proved that he was the right owner for the pup if his camping outside wasn’t enough.

“Elliot acted like he was being reunited with an old friend, and it was obvious to us that there was a match there!” According to Mercurio,

Dr. Eberhart took Elliot home that day and gave him the name “Leo.” The dodo says it stands for “love each other.”

After the touching video went viral, Eberhart created his own TikTok account to document his travels with Leo.

Videos reveal that the guy and dog are quite happy together and are frequently seen resting about the house.

“Life is good when you’re together,” Eberhart wrote.
